Keats called it the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness. Many people love autumn for its beautiful colours, the slight nip in the air, the bright but cold mornings. For us autumn means our favourite time of year in terms of coffee seasonality: many of our favourite coffees come out at this time of year.
Coffee is a seasonal crop and different origins have different harvest times. Some countries have one harvest a year, some have two. Here at Bean & Bud as far as possible we try to treat coffee as a fresh, seasonal product and so we work with our roasters on getting the new crops as they come through. It’s interesting that as we have now been in business for almost 7 years we start to see a pattern in our annual coffee purchases and see coffee from the same farms coming up at the same time each year. At the moment it’s the season for two of our all-time favourites, the washed Ethiopians from Sidamo and Yirgacheffe, and the red bourbon from El Salvador. The former are reminiscent of strawberry, jasmine and peach, the latter full of jammy flavours.
What’s your favourite? Come in and try the new season’s coffee for yourself.
